My Compassion Story

My sponsorship story starts with a girl who wanted to sponsor a child because it would be 'cool', but never got around to actually doing it. And then August 2013 happened. And God happened. And a brokenness and love for the world's children happened. And that girl now wanted to sponsor a child, not because it's right or because it's the cool thing to do, but because of her Father's love for her and for every child in every corner of the world. So that 14 year old started sponsorship with a precious 5 year old Indonesian sister named Devi. She saw Devi turn 6, and she wrote and prayed for her. But she wanted to do more...
So she emailed Compassion, and they sent her an 8 year old Dominican Republic girl with the sweetest smile who needed someone to write letters and show that they cared. And Mari entered the story. As she continued to pray and write these two precious girls, God continued to grow her love for them. They became so much than a picture hanging up on her bedroom wall. They became so much more than $38 and a letter a month. They became her sisters in Christ. Not only were they a couple children across the world, they were HER sponsor babies. They were personal. And when Devi moved away out of the Compassion program, her heart broke. Because even though she had never met this little girl, God had placed Devi in her life and to be unable to see her grow through her letters and pictures was painful. So she continued to pray for Devi and started sponsoring Rosa from the Philippines. And God opened the door for her to travel with Compassion to Ethiopia. As He is growing her and growing her love for Him and for the world, He is calling her to share it with others. To spread His love with those in Calhoun, Georgia and across the globe, to the ends of the earth.

And this is why I am SO excited for Compassion's all-new way to share the joy of sponsorship! MyCompassionSunday is a new tool for people to become involved in helping to release more children from poverty! I have set up a MyCompassion page and have included the opportunity to sponsor a precious little girl from Ethiopia. Sponsorship changed me, and God has called and commissioned me to share that with others. The light you can be in the life of a child and the light that child is in yours is so worth it. Receiving a letter from Rosa, Mari, or the pastor of their local church makes my week. Begin investing in the life of a child today. Head over to my.compassionsunday.com/abigailconv99 to view my page and sponsor a child! Christ calls each of us to care for the least of these, and it is such a privilege to be able to do that through Compassion. Sponsor a child and speak hope into their life, and watch as they change your life as well.
